  1. Neil Burrows:

Have been diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome (high functioning autism) and have quite bad depression, lack of focus and concentration, sensory (information) processing difficulties.

Have often read references about “leaky gut” and Candida being part of an ASD (autistic spectrum disorder) cause or aggravating the symptoms.

Am thinking of going for Test kit 4 (tests for candida, “leaky gut” and gluten and casein / dairy intolerance and also for parasitical stuff which I may have) or just Test kit 1? Am I correct or not in thinking test kit 4 tests for all of these things ?

    Advice here would be appreciated

    Dear Neil,

Thank you very much for your question.

Yes, Asperger Syndrome and similar problems have been related to gut malfunction. On this subject I can recommend the book: Gut and Psychology Syndrome: Natural Treatment for Autism,ADD/ADHD,Dyslexia,Dyspraxia,Depression,Schizophrenia Author: Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride.

I would recommend Test No 3 or 4 for you. Unfortunately you must have misunderstood our test description as we cannot
offer food intolerance testing from stool samples. They require venous blood. Please feel free to call us for any further questions you might have.

We offer a regular telephone service on Mon, Wed, Thurs and Fri from 10.00 to 13.00, telephone 01903 893 591.

I recently got an e-mail from our customer Pam (full name is known to BTS) asking the following question:
One of my clients has had his entire bowel removed as a result of ulcerative colitis. The operations left him with several internal abscesses for which he frequently has to take antibiotics. His food intolerance test has come back with very strong dairy and yeast intolerances among others. I haven’t arranged a stool test or done an anti candida programme for someone without a bowel before, and I wondered if there is any advice you could give me.

    Our answer was:
The test for the complete Status of Intestinal Colonisation on patients who had a colonectomy (bowel removed) is not advisable because these patients usually have very runny stools and the lab cannot reliably calculate the dilution. Quite a while after the operation, sometimes the small intestine can take over tasks of the large intestine, but some people keep having diarrhoea. The stool test should only be used to exclude fungal overgrowth (just mycology). Please also consider the possibility of a dairy or other food allergy or lactose intolerance.
